Introducing Bowline Hotel

Introducing Bowline Hotel!

We’ve been working on something big in Astoria, Oregon. Over the last two years, we’ve been transforming a seafood processing plant into a luxurious 40-room hotel, right on the mighty Columbia River next to Buoy Beer. In the heart of town, Bowline Hotel is a uniquely revitalized place balancing industrial aesthetics and the Adrift Hospitality amenities we know you love. Read our story and be sure to make a reservation! Bowline Hotel opens in July.

A singular location

Right in the middle of town, our building used to be home to various seafood processing plants when Astoria was the world’s canning capital. As recently as 2013, sardines were processed here. We loved this video but also acknowledge how many good jobs were lost when the last seafood processor closed. As a local employer, Adrift Hospitality is committed to creating living-wage jobs and balancing profit and social purpose. We couldn’t be happier to be part of Astoria’s revitalization.

We love Astoria!

From its rich history to its vibrant present, Astoria has a history of reinventing itself. Explore the art and local maker scene, discover historic downtown, and have a locally brewed beer. Experience everything this unique place has to offer. Get a taste of the Northwest at our bar, The Knot. Sweat it out in one of the barrel saunas overlooking the river. Grab a coffee and explore Astoria like a local: curious, connected, and kind. Remember, like sardines in a can, we’re all in this together.

A first for Adrift Hospitality

Bowline Hotel is our sixth property, our second Oregon location but the first time we’ve transformed a building into a hotel. We’ve learned a lot over the years but they say it takes a village – and they’re right! Creating 40 rooms with modern amenities in a building that had never had overnight guests wouldn’t have been possible without our great local contractors and our local lender Craft3.

We do it all for you!

Welcome home to sprawling King beds, luxurious sheets, soaking tubs, and the warming glow of your fireplace. Take in the view from your patio or balcony. Enjoy locally crafted touches, tall ceilings, and large windows. Watch the ships go by or fall in love with Astoria’s Victorian architecture, Bowline Hotel invites you to be part of our community.

Time flies when you’re having fun. We’ve had a lot of fun these last ten years. When we opened Adrift Hotel & Spa in 2011, we didn’t plan to become a hospitality brand with six hotels, two restaurants, and a distillery. Putting our values into action and cultivating a collaborative, respectful work environment helped us grow. But nothing compares to welcoming our guests and seeing them relax, make new friends over drinks, or just enjoy the present moment. Here’s to you, the curious traveler, the freedom seeker, the independent spirit.

VP of Oregon Operations, Allyx O'Connor

Allyx has always been drawn to spaces where people gather for food, drinks and fun. At age 14, she started working in her family’s cafe “Not just Joe” in Cathlamet, WA helping with everything from the dining room to the kitchen.

She started working at Adrift in 2013 and soon became the Pickled Fish FOH manager. She enjoyed the restaurant’s support of local farmers showcasing the bounty of the Pacific Northwest. Allyx often splits her time between Oregon and Washington and enjoys the beautiful commute across the mighty Columbia River.

Allyx loves that people at Adrift get opportunities to grow. She jumped at the chance to take on more responsibility as Food and Beverage Director before being promoted to VP of Oregon Operations. She identifies with the Adrift Hospitality’s values and admires the commitment to local purveyors. At Bowline, she’s made sure to establish many connections in the vibrant Astoria maker scene.

Construction Manager Kyle Garbrick

Kyle is on our construction team turning a former sardine plant into Bowline Hotel. He loves seeing new life in this old building. Kyle has been with Adrift since 2011 and is excited to grow our brand from Washington into Oregon. As a builder, Kyle loves the challenge of transforming an industrial location into a luxurious hotel.

Kyle has worked in almost every department of the Adrift Hospitality. Maintenance, housekeeping, dishwashing, bussing, hosting – Kyle has done it all. Growing up on the Long Beach peninsula, Kyle has known a few of his coworkers since he graduated from school. Adrift is family to him. He loves being part of a company that is invested in and invests in the community.

Kyle enjoys the outdoors and loves golfing on the Long Beach peninsula. As a beer enthusiast, a workplace in the middle of Astoria’s thriving brewery scene is a dream come true. We are lucky to have someone as dedicated and willing to do whatever it takes to make Adrift awesome.

Executive Chef Jake Martin

Jake joined the Adrift Hospitality team in 2019 as the Executive Chef at Pickled Fish Restaurant in Long Beach, WA. Since then, Jake’s role has expanded to include all food establishments in the Adrift Hospitality portfolio, including our newest addition The Knot bar at Bowline Hotel.

A self-taught chef, Martin started washing dishes in restaurants at 15. At the age of 21, he moved to Seattle where he worked in many highly sought-after establishments. At Maria Hine’s Tilth, Martin learned from Hines’ Buddhist philosophy and familial approach to running the restaurant, and her ingredients-led approach greatly influenced his cooking style.

Martin then settled into the Portland restaurant scene, where he worked at Carlyle, Genoa, and Fenouil. Martin’s food philosophy – let ingredients speak for themselves, keep things simple, and don’t overcomplicate dishes – is perfectly suited to our values at The Knot Bar with seasonal menus showcasing the local bounty of the Pacific Northwest.
